God's Branding & Identity
Image Matters: Intentionally Promoting Jesus | Part 2
16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek. Romans 1:16
Preaching the Gospel
In my previous post, I explained the principles of unspoken communication and how the enemy uses encoded messages and his own branding to promote himself. As the enemy remains extremely active in spreading his deceptive campaigns, my biggest concern is:
Are we, as followers of Jesus Christ, doing enough to promote Him and God’s Kingdom? Are we putting in the same level of effort that the enemy does?
We should.
The Bible tells us:
16 For if I preach the gospel, I have nothing to boast of, for necessity is laid upon me; yes, woe is me if I do not preach the gospel!1 Corinthians 9:16
This verse clearly shows us that we have a responsibility to preach the gospel.
The important difference is that, unlike the enemy, God’s Kingdom is never preached through deception, manipulation, or impure motives. The bible teaches that gospel shouldn’t be preached from envy or selfish ambition either. It must be done sincerely, from the pure honesty and love:
15 Some indeed preach Christ even from envy and strife, and some also from goodwill: 16 The former preach Christ from selfish ambition, not sincerely, supposing to add affliction to my chains; 17 but the latter out of love, knowing that I am appointed for the defense of the gospel. Philippians 1:15-17
Scripture describes us as being appointed for the defence of the gospel. This responsibility calls us to be ready to face opposition and defend the truth. It’s a call to stand firm in the trials, persecution and spiritual battle. It’s a call to boldly proclaim Christ Jesus to the world.
Moreover, if we go back to 1 Corinthians 9, we see that it says:
17 For if I do this willingly, I have a reward; but if against my will, I have been entrusted with a stewardship. 18 What is my reward then? That when I preach the gospel, I may present the gospel of Christ without charge, that I may not abuse my authority in the gospel. 1 Corinthians 9:17-18
Preaching the gospel is not only a responsibility, but it is also spiritually rewarding for us.
What to Preach
To preach the gospel means to publicly share God's truth and call people to believe in Jesus’ death and resurrection. It means to announce and proclaim the love of God, the forgiveness of sins through Jesus Christ, and the hope of eternal life.
To promote Jesus and God’s Kingdom effectively, we must acknowledge that this is not about us! Life is about Him, the KING of kings and LORD of lords!
We preach for His glory, not our own.
Gospel is about the cross. It’s about God’s wisdom and light, His goodness, mighty works and miracles, His holy character, His majesty, mercy and grace, His righteousness, comfort and restoration, His healing power! His justice, faithfulness and protection… His glorious presence and peace… It’s about accepting God as our Savior, Leader, Guide, and Source of strength, and all provision.
Preaching the gospel is our calling to boldly communicate all of this, together with God's Word, by speaking the truth in love:
15 but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head—Christ— 16 from whom the whole body, joined and knit together by what every joint supplies, according to the effective working by which every part does its share, causes growth of the body for the edifying of itself in love. Ephesians 4:15-16
Preaching also means understanding that we, believers, are here to remain united and to continually build one another up in love.
We must remember that we represent God together as one body, andare called to function as one body! Through His love, we are united in one purpose: to reveal God's glorious nature and lead people to repentance, baptism, and salvation.
No Competition: One Body
Those who belong to Christ, belong to the body of Christ. We are united by the same Spirit and belong to the same God.
In the body of Christ, as in God’s Kingdom, no one is greater in value than anyone else. And the body illustrates this truth—each part serves in its own unique way, and all necessary (eyes, ears, mouth, lungs, heart...). As members of one body, every one of us has a role in making gospel known. For this reason, we must care for one another:
24 but our presentable parts have no need. But God composed the body, having given greater honor to that part which lacks it, 25 that there should be no schism in the body, but that the members should have the same care for one another. 1 Corinthians 12:24-25
We each are given different gifts, but they are not for ourselves alone—they are given to advance God’s Kingdom through serving others (1 Corinthians 12:7). When we serve others, we serve Jesus Himself. And all is for our edification:
11 And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, 12 for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ,13 till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ; Ephesians 4:11-13
And so we are all needed to make Jesus known. Without each member, the body cannot function at its fullest potential. Therefore, I encourage everyone:
Let us embrace the mission of promoting Jesus Christ together. May the Church of Jesus be intentionally united, and may the gospel be preached boldly and known to its fullest!
Promoting Jesus Christ
Now, the question is no longer whether we should promote God, but what that looks like?
To promote Jesus Christ and God’s kingdom, we don’t need to be wealthy advertisers, influencers, branding specialists, or titled people to notice God’s grace and share Him with others. Promoting Jesus Christ does not necessarily involve buying advertisements or paid ads. No.
Our primary language of communication is L O V E !
The Bible gives us an explanation:
34 A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. 35 By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”John 13:34-35
Simply put, this Scripture tells us that love is not only our Lord’s identity, but also our identity! And our purpose is to love one another, so that everyone may see it reflected in our lives—this is how we promote Him.
Love is our marketing strategy and love is the root of our God’s branding and identity. Jesus is Love, and Love is our greatest image!
His love must be known! Jesus is everything! Love is everything!
Sharing the Light: Do Good
The Bible teaches us:
21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. Romans 12:21
+
15 For this is the will of God, that by doing good you may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men— 1 Peter 2:15
Also, it is important to note that this is exactly what God has called us to do and what He desires from us. Doing good is God’s will for us, and in doing so, we let our light shine:
16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven. Matthew 5:16
Sharing the light is a beautiful responsibility and the complete opposite of what the enemy does. By sharing the light, we glorify our Father in heaven—or, in other words, we promote Him!
Love in Action
Jesus teaches that love for all people must be shown through actions, not just words:
17 But whoever has this world’s goods, and sees his brother in need, and shuts up his heart from him, how does the love of God abide in him? 18 My little children, let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth. 1 John 3:17-18
The truth is that by helping others we are not only loving them but also advancing God’s kingdom!
Good deeds are the purest expression of love and the right way of promoting Jesus Christ. By doing this, we love others and bear witness that we are His disciples too.
Moreover, the bible tells us that without good works, our faith is dead:
15 If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food, 16 and one of you says to them, “Depart in peace, be warmed and filled,” but you do not give them the things which are needed for the body, what does it profit? 17 Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. James 2:14-17
Our responsibility is to love others by actually caring for the homeless, helping the sick, feeding the hungry, and comforting the brokenhearted, widows, orphans, and the elderly. This is love in action.
The Cost of Not Doing Good
In Matthew 25:31-46 Jesus warns us about the final judgement. This is not something we should overlook, as the consequences of not doing good deeds are severe—everlasting punishment. Here’s the quote:
45 Then He will answer them, saying, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to Me.’ 46 And these will go away into everlasting punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.” Matthew 25:45-46
Once again:
We are ordered to support those who are hungry, thirsty, lacking clothing, or without shelter. We are here to show love, light, peace, kindness, faithfulness, righteousness and gentleness, as Jesus taught and demonstrated. And if we are not able to help materially, then we may pray, and let us ask God to help, support, and provide—this, too, is an act of love.
Good Deeds Done in Secret
While we understand that doing and sharing good promotes God’s Kingdom, we should also remember that not everything we do needs to be spoken about publicly! What I am referring to here is charitable work.
The Bible teaches that charitable deeds are meant to be hidden and done in secret:
2 Therefore, when you do a charitable deed, do not sound a trumpet before you as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory from men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward. 3 But when you do a charitable deed, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing,4 that your charitable deed may be in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will Himself reward you openly. Matthew 6:2-4
Now, this does not mean that we should not encourage charitable deeds. It means that while we encourage one another to help those in need, we do not speak about how much we ourselves have given or how many good deeds we have done. These matters are kept private between the giver and God.
24 And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, 25 not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching. Hebrews 10:24-25
Planing Good
Friends, another wonderful instruction for promoting Jesus is found in Proverbs 14:22, where it says:
22 Do they not go astray who devise evil?
But mercy and truth belong to those who devise good.
This verse tells us, that doing good means planning good, strategising good, and performing good! This means that every believer should intentionally share God's goodness and His light with others. Our Lord calls us to think of good works and arrange them in advance! When we do so, mercy and truth belong to us!
Glory to Jesus!
Loving Others as Yourself
The Bible tells us:
10 Love does no harm to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfillment of the law. Romans 13:10
Yes, it is God’s law that we love others as ourselves! This commandment is taught in both the Old Testament (Leviticus 19:18) and the New Testament (Matthew 22:37–40):
18 You shall not take vengeance, nor bear any grudge against the children of your people, but you shall love your neighbor as yourself: I am the Lord. Leviticus 19:18
+
37 Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’40 On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.” Matthew 22:37-40
What we need to understand is that God's commandments are wonderful and wise! It’s a way to comprehend what Heavenly righteousness is. God’s commandments express His holiness, by which we are also called to become holy (1 Peter 1:15-16).
These are the foundation of God’s branding and identity.
Oppressing the Poor Is a Sin
And so, if our God commands us to love our neighbors as ourselves, then helping others means giving them the same quality of care that we would choose for ourselves (to the extent we are able). For example:
If a homeless person is hungry, we are called to give them good food, not something outdated or of lesser quality. Otherwise, it could be considered “Personal Favoritism” as described in James 2:1-13.
The Bible also tells us, it is sinful for us to oppress the poor!!! Here’s the quote:
8 If you really fulfill the royal law according to the Scripture, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself,” you do well; 9 but if you show partiality, you commit sin,and are convicted by the law as transgressors. James 2:8-9
If we break the commandment, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself,” we become transgressors of the law, just as if we were murdering someone or committing adultery:
10 For whoever shall keep the whole law, and yet stumble in one point, he is guilty of all. 11 For He who said, “Do not commit adultery,” also said, “Do not murder.” Now if you do not commit adultery, but you do murder, you have become a transgressor of the law. James 2:10-11
Moreover, if we break the command to love our neighbors as ourselves, we will be judged without mercy, because we ourselves have shown no mercy.
20 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead… Romans 1:20
Brand Elements of Love
Finally, let's talk about God’s visual communication, for it’s all around us every day!
Our Lord is recognisable not only by love and good deeds. All these and similar things are encoded with Jesus and His love:
Sun, golden hour, blue sky, pink clouds, summer breeze, rain, shiny stars, young moon, bright and joyful colours, plants, yellow tomatoes, black tomatoes, trees, mangoes, wild berries, hazelnuts, other fruits, flowers, cute animals, pets… the sound of the wind, the singing of the birds… goodness, simplicity, pure things, peaceful moments, justice and righteousness, soft and wise words, and of course—God’s Word!
These are all God’s brand elements, and for advertising purposes they are freely available for us to use in our lives. This also means that if we are creating a logotype, video, picture, or anything else, we are free to use the shape of the cotton flower (shown in the images) in our marketing campaign, and God will never send you an invoice for ownership rights! :D
All we need is to welcome the beauty of God’s creation, the truth of the Gospel, and His love into our hearts first, and then let them be expressed in everything else: advertisements, promotions, verbal conversations, visuals, creative work, work, dreams, leisure, attitudes and etc. It will speak for itself, as it naturally radiates love!
Accepting God’s love is a decision. It is a choice. Yes, an intentional choice—and one that is absolutely worth making.
Choosing beauty over darkness makes a difference, because beautiful and visually pleasing things tend to fill us with joy. It is like the difference between a nightmare and a colourful animated comedy dream—we all know which aftereffect leaves us happier. It is always a win when we fill our platforms, homes, computers, phones, wardrobes, minds, and all the rest with things that are lovely and point to God. This is also how we intentionally encode love into our lives and promote Jesus! Therefore, friends:
Let us choose love, encode love, show love, and share love—together, lovingly, and creatively! Because image truly matters! Amen.
P.S.
As cotton flowers age, they naturally change colour, usually shifting from creamy white or yellow to vibrant pink or red within 24 to 48 hours! Wow!
24 O Lord, how manifold are Your works!
In wisdom You have made them all. Psalm 104:24
God is… incredible!!!
Thank you!
All Scripture quoted is from the NKJV.
